This is a huge day for Philly DSA as three of our ongoing campaigns will be having critical hearings at City Hall. If you can make it, we urge you to attend!
Fairwork Week Legislation Final Vote:
Thanks to hundreds of you who turned out for the Fair Workweek hearing last week, the bill was passed out of committee. But this campaign isn't won yet! Now, we take this fight to the Council floor.
We need your support to make sure that the people win a Fair Workweek when it's up for a full Council vote on 12/6. S
Good Cause Legislation Final Vote:
There were over 20,000 evictions in Philadelphia in 2017, home ownership rates here are decreasing and rents are increasing. Tenants need to have protections against landlords who are taking an ever growing proportion of Philadelphians’ paychecks. Additionally, 70% of evictions target women of color. City Council will be voting on this bill that requires landlords to have a legal cause before filing an eviction against a tenant who is on a lease of less than one year. This bill’s passage will change the terrain of organizing for housing justice in this city and will protect thousands of tenants in this city.
OCOS Hearing: Tell City Council to End Toxic Tax Breaks!
The Our City Our Schools Coordinating Committee is lobbying City Council to end the 10-year tax abatement, as part of the OCOS coalition effort.
We are meeting at 9:30 on the 4th floor of City Hall, outside the security entrance.
