Bernie OSM 5/23/19 Notes

On May 23, Philly DSA hosted its first Open Strategy Meeting to begin discussing our Chapter's approach to the Bernie 2020 Campaign. The notes from our first discussion can be found here. We hope that other chapters engaging in Bernie work will find this useful. Anyone who is interested in getting involved with any aspect of this campaign should email [email protected] to get in touch with the moderators of each section and learn more! You can also get in touch with Melissa (via the gmail) to find out more about the campaign as a whole.

The Bernie OSM opened with a speech from Kilynn Lunsford on why Philly DSA will be supporting Bernie Sanders for president and how our organization can benefit from campaigning for him.

Following that, Jason Leach, chair of the Ad Hoc Policy Committee, gave an overview of Bernie Sanders’ and other Democratic presidential candidates’ policy platforms. The text of his speech (prepared with help from Ben Swartz) can be found here.

Then the meeting had a series of 15-20 minute discussions brainstorming five different aspects of our campaign coalitions, the crowded primary, public events, communications/messaging, and field work (canvassing).
