Our capitalist system produces obscene amounts of waste that is buried and burnt near where people live, polluting our air and water. Join the Delco Branch, Green New Deal Commission, and Racial Justice Commission in discussing how disadvantaged communities, both globally and locally, are impacted by waste disposal. We will focus on the damage caused in the City of Chester by the Covanta incinerator, which handles all of the waste in Delaware County and a third of Philadelphia's waste, and steps the chapter can take to end it.
We will be joined by Mike Ewall, an expert in waste disposal, and Zulene Mayfield, a community organizer who has opposed the incinerator for decades.
This event is organized jointly by the Racial Justice commission, the Green New Deal commission, and Delco DSA.
