This is an open reading group run jointly by Philly DSA's Labor Committee and Political Education Committee. Our purpose is to study the history of the movement to organize labor in the United States. By learning this history's many trends, successes, and failures, we aim to better understand how we arrived at our current moment and to how we can effectively move our work forward.We are launching this group with the text Prisoners of the American Dream by Mike Davis. Written in the early years of Reagan administration, the text offers a general history of working class politics in the United States, and seeks to answer why the movement for labor so weak in this country.This meeting will be discussing chapter 4 of the text.
