National Delegate Voting 2021

The season of the DSA National Convention is upon us! The National Convention, which takes place every two years, is the highest decision-making body of the organization. Delegates elected by chapters will gather from August 1–8 in an online convention to debate and vote on resolutions and bylaws/constitutional amendments, in addition to electing a new National Political Committee to lead DSA for the 2021-2023 term.

Philly DSA has been allocated 27 delegate seats, plus 5 alternate spots. There are 44 candidates running for these seats in the chapter delegate election this year; you may want to read their candidate statements before you vote.

This election will also use the Single Transferable Vote (STV) method, where each voter casts a single vote but marks their ballot for the most preferred candidate first, followed by back-up preferences. A member’s vote goes to the candidate they ranked first, but if that candidate is eliminated due to having the fewest votes, then that vote is transferred to the candidate they ranked second, and so on and so forth. You are eligible to vote if you are a member of Philly DSA in good standing. If you’re able to vote in General Meetings, you’re able to vote in this election.

The delegate election will be conducted online with OpaVote until 11:59 PM, Saturday, June 12. An email will be sent to you shortly with an OpaVote link that you can use to cast your ballot just once — so make sure to review your choices carefully before clicking “submit”!
