For the final Night School of the fall semester, we'll be talking about the labor movement.
Today, only about one in ten American workers are union members, down from a peak of one in three in the 1950s. Half of these union members live in just seven states (California, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, and Washington). It's no secret that the labor movement is in a serious crisis. But there are green shoots, from the teachers' strikes that swept West Virginia and Arizona in 2018, to recent rank-and-file victories in the Teamsters and United Auto Workers. Join Philly DSA as we discuss the state of the labor movement and how we rebuild working-class power.
Night Schools are discussion groups designed to provide a casual setting where we can consider issues related to socialist history, theory, and strategy.
Night Schools are not "schools" in the traditional sense. There are no fees, grades, or prior readings, and all are welcome regardless of previous experience.
Join us, whether you're new to DSA or an expert Marxologist! Night Schools are free and open to all, regardless of previous experience. There are no assigned readings.
