Philly DSA calls for the immediate release of Native political prisoner Leonard Peltier
Peltier, an elder American Indian Movement (AIM) leader, contracted COVID-19 while serving two life sentences for a crime he did not commit. He has serious underlying health issues that make him susceptible to severe COVID-19. We call on President Biden to grant him clemency immediately, to right this wrong and so he may be transferred to a hospital for adequate medical attention.

The time is long overdue to commute his wrongful conviction. Peltier’s imprisonment is a product of centuries-long settler-colonialism, racism, and oppression targeting Native Americans. In the fight toward abolition, we echo the demands of Indigenous groups from the past four decades to release Leonard Peltier immediately.
