In late August, the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers' contract expired. This contract covers public school teachers, counselors, nurses, secretaries, and support staff. These essential workers are now left without the scheduled raises they expected, and still face uncertainty about what the reopening of schools will look like.

The PFT has proven that the money does exist for a contract extension with a modest raise, similar to what other city workers (such as police) received in the spring. As the district cries poverty, they continue to give tax breaks to wealthy corporations like Hilco and Comcast. The district is also trying to tie a contract agreement to the reopening of schools. forcing educators to choose between making a living and our lives.
