Philly DSA statement on violence against Asian-Americans

Philly DSA was saddened to see the violence against Asians and Asian-Americans continue when a man killed eight people working in Atlanta-area massage parlors. We mourn with their families and community. This violence is connected to the white supremacy and hate that is growing on the right, and must be opposed by socialists everywhere.

These murders are linked to the continued state violence against immigrants, including a cruel policy of mass deportations. Deportations normalize a false dichotomy between deserving citizens born on US soil and undeserving “aliens.” The Biden administration deported 33 Vietnamese refugees on March 15, including refugees like Hieu Huynh who survived war, incarceration, and poverty to resettle in the USA in 1980. We stand with our comrades at VietLead in condemning the Biden administration for perpetuating this circle of violence that contributes to anti-immigrant sentiment. We call on Philly DSA members to support Huynh through VietLead, which will transfer funds to Huynh.
