The Philadelphia Domestic Workers Bill of Rights is moving quickly through the legislative process. A Bill has been drafted creating one of the strongest city-level laws for workplace rights and protections for nannies, house cleaners, and caretakers in the entire country. On Tuesday, October 22, the Law and Government Committee of Philadelphia Council will hear the bill and vote on it with a majority (4of 7) Council members in that committee voting yes for the bill to move forward. Last year in the Fair Work Week campaign Philly DSA was a strong and visible presence in council during that fight. Let’s do it again this session for the domestic workers in Philadelphia. Domestic workers support all of us - by caring for our children, our senior citizens and our homes. Let’s turn out for them visibly and vocally in Council chambers on the 22nd. The Pennsylvania Domestic Workers Alliance will be meeting at the NE corner of City Hall by the visitors entrance at 9:45 am to walk in together. Prior to the 22nd we may be asked to help with phone banking and texting certain council members. Please consider helping in that way if you are unable to attend the hearing.
