In order to be a Member in Good Standing, you must pay National dues. You can pay national dues at a variety of levels here: https://act.dsausa.org/donate/membership2020/
However, as a socialist organization, it would be no good if we turned people away from organizing with us because they don't have any money to donate! So if you cannot afford to pay dues, you may fill out this application for a dues waiver here: https://act.dsausa.org/survey/dueswaiver
Local dues are optional but they really help out the chapter. We use Local dues to pay for all kinds of things, including facilities, equipment, special events, and campaigns. Funds are crucial to our ability to function as a robust, effective chapter, and every penny counts. As much as we may wish otherwise, political organization requires money. Local dues will allow us to continue to grow, develop membership, and contribute to the overall goals of the DSA. By becoming a dues-paying member, you’re helping to prove that effective mobilization can be done democratically, without massive donations or private fundraising.
While local dues help support all of Philly DSA's political work, you do not have to pay local dues to be a member in good standing of Philly DSA
You can see Dues FAQ below.

DSA is a membership-driven organization. That means that all operations, events, and campaigns are funded by our members’ dues. This ensures that DSA members are in full democratic and political control of our organization and that we are never reliant on donations or private funding. National dues start at $15 a month (unless you get a dues waiver) and entitle all members to organizational resources and a vote within the organization.
There are two types of dues we ask our members to pay, National and Local.
Local dues are optional but they greatly help out the chapter. We use Local dues to pay for all kinds of things, including facilities, equipment, special events, and campaigns. They give us the ability to support unique initiatives, organize our membership, influence politics within the greater Philadelphia area, build infrastructure, and provide meeting spaces to our members.
National dues go to DSA USA, and pay for infrastructure, campaigns, and offices. These can be paid for here.

Yes! Meetings are open to anyone who would like to listen in and participate in campaigns, but only Members in Good Standing will be able to vote on initiatives and participate in any democratically controlled mechanisms within the chapter. Essentially - National dues are the formal requirement for DSA membership and local dues enable us to effectively operate at the local level. We really do rely on this to fund our organization so we encourage everyone to pay in, but we’ll never turn you away. We encourage anyone who cannot afford to pay dues but wants to participate as a member to fill out the dues waiver form here.
You can sign up for the income based Solidarity dues! This is a huge boost for our National organization which does provide us and other chapters with important resources like trainings and infrastructure like Action Network. More information can be found here
