    Summer Night School: Capital

Susan B. Anthony Room, First Unitarian Church

We all know what we're up against: capitalism! But what exactly is capitalism? Is it a thing, a system, or something else? And, why does it persist in spite of the fact that it promotes so much instability, crisis, and suffering? There are different ways to understand the political economy, not all of which are compatible. Figuring out exactly what we’re up against is crucial if our goal is to change it.

    Readings:

Marx & Engels, The Communist Manifesto (p. 14-34)

    David Harvey, "Capital Assembled"

    Summer Night School: Socialism

Susan B. Anthony Room, First Unitarian Church

School is out for the summer, but the fun is just beginning!

Philly DSA will be hosting a short "Summer School" based on our Night School program, offering a comfortable space where we can all get together and discuss socialist politics. We will examine some of the core theoretical concepts used by Leftists (e.g. democracy, socialism, exploitation); consider the ways capitalism leads to forms of inequality and domination; and review the major strategies deployed by socialists in the process of changing the world for the better.

Whether you're brand new to socialism or an expert Marxologist, join us for summer school!
