What is Democratic Socialism?

Capitalism is a system designed by the owning class to exploit the rest of us for their profit. Capitalism keeps us in constant competition, preventing ordinary people from organizing to build something better. Capitalism cannot be reformed into a just system.

We seek to replace capitalism with democratic socialism, a system that restructures our economic and political systems to prioritize people over profits and to give everyone a genuine voice in their workplaces, neighborhoods, and society.

To achieve democratic socialism, we must expand union membership and organize in our workplaces, build fighting tenant unions, and mobilize a mass social movement. We must fight for democratic public control over the key economic drivers that dominate our lives, from energy production to transportation. And we will need to confront the capitalist class to win.

Democratic socialism isn’t a static vision. It is something we fight for throughout our lives. It means fighting for and achieving radical reforms, such as single-payer Medicare for All and the Green New Deal, ending imperialist wars, and electing socialists to office who are accountable to organized working people, and uniting the multiracial working class in solidarity. Democratic socialism is the vision of a just world.
