Who Really Owns Philadelphia Gas Works?

When

November 30, 2021 at 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is one of the largest municipally-owned gas utility in the country. But today, PGW, like too many public utilities, is largely undemocratic and functions much like a private company. As a result, it doesn’t serve the interests of the people who own it.

In this session, we’ll examine why, in an age of climate breakdown, that urgently needs to change— and what we can do about it. In conversation with other organizations that are working to transform the utility, we’ll explore how PGW operates, why it’s failing the people of Philadelphia, and what kind of reforms can ensure a future for PGW that is sustainable, equitable, and just.
